REMEMBERING WILLIAM TYNDALE – OCTOBER 6
The year was 1526, and the docks of London were thick with the smell of river salt and the tension of a manhunt.
Deep inside the cargo holds of merchant ships arriving from the continent, hidden beneath crates of grain and bolts of cloth, lay the most dangerous contraband in the world.
They weren't weapons of steel or barrels of gunpowder.
They were books.
Small, thumbed-through volumes of the New Testament, printed in a language the common man could actually understand: English.
For centuries, the Church held a monopoly on the Word of God, locked away in Latin texts that only the elite could decipher.
To translate those words into the common tongue was more than a scholarly pursuit—it was an act of high treason against the heavens and the crown.
At the center of this spiritual revolution was William Tyndale, a brilliant linguist who had been forced into a life of shadows and aliases.
Tyndale didn't just want people to hear the Gospel; he wanted the "boy that driveth the plough" to know more of the scripture than the local clergy did.
It was a mission that turned him into a ghost, flitting between German printing shops and safe houses in the Low Countries.
Cardinal Wolsey and King Henry VIII deployed a network of spies to track him down, viewing his work as a virus that would dismantle the order of society.
Every copy of his Bible that reached English shores was hunted with a vengeance.
Authorities would gather the books in Great baskets and haul them to St. Paul’s Cross in London, where they were tossed into massive bonfires.
But the flames only served to fuel the public's curiosity.
Tyndale remained in exile, working by candlelight to translate the Old Testament directly from Hebrew, a feat never before accomplished in the English language.
He gave us the phrases that still echo in our speech today: "Let there be light," "The salt of the earth," and "The signs of the times."
He was crafting the very soul of the English language while the noose was tightening around his neck.
In 1535, the end finally arrived in the city of Antwerp.
Tyndale was befriended by a young man named Henry Phillips, a gambler and a thief who had been hired to find the elusive scholar.
Phillips invited Tyndale to a meal, leading him down a narrow alleyway where imperial officers were waiting in the shadows.
Tyndale was seized and dragged to the grim fortress of Vilvoorde, near Brussels.
For eighteen months, he sat in a damp, freezing cell, begging his captors for a lamp and a Hebrew Bible so he could continue his work in the dark.
In October 1536, the scholar was brought out to the middle of the town square.
A massive crowd gathered to watch the execution of the man who had defied the Pope and the King.
Tyndale was tied to a stake with a heavy iron chain around his neck.
As the executioner prepared the torch, Tyndale cried out his final words with a voice that carried across the square: "Lord! Open the King of England's eyes!"
He was strangled to death before his body was consumed by the flames.
But the irony of history is often swifter than the fire.
Less than four years later, King Henry VIII—the very man who had hunted Tyndale—ordered that every parish church in England must display a copy of an English Bible.
That Bible, known as the Great Bible, was almost entirely the work of the man the King had helped destroy.
William Tyndale lost his life, but he ensured that the English language would never belong to the elite again.
He gave the common man a voice that no fire could ever silence.

“Sheep need shepherds. That’s why I am your pastor and you are to follow me!”
WOLVES AHEAD
Many wolves (Matthew 7:15) have made their home in the world of churchianity and of Christendom.
They prey upon the unsuspecting, the naive and the undiscerning. They come in sheep's clothing, varying in many different disguises and using flattering titles.
Some wolves are called pastors or elders. Some wolves are even classified as "scholars," professors, and doctors. Wolves in the world of churchianity have different ministries and they are often very persuasive public speakers.
Some are book authors. Some love to sing, while some just go around conducting conferences and special meetings.
Some are power hungry and control hungry. Some are sexually hungry - some with their female congregants, others with little boys.
HOW CAN YOU TELL IF YOU ARE GATHERED TOGETHER IN THE MIDST OF WOLVES?
Here are five vital tips:
●Wolves will always focus your attention on their supposed "rule and authority" over you, while at the same time, claiming to be “your humble servants.”
●Wolves will always be demanding your presence at all of their weekly performances.
●Wolves will always make you think that by putting your money in the offering plate on Sunday, you are giving back to God and He will bless you.
●Wolves will always teach that “…God is speaking through them…” and therefore, “you must obey and never question.”
●Wolves will always claim to be unifiers and lovers of the truth and lovers of the family while in fact, they are exactly just the opposite. They are great deceivers and great destroyers of the truth and of the family.
Look, anybody can be fooled by these frauds and imposters, unless…UNLESS they are discerning and are deeply rooted, by the Spirit, in Jesus Christ and Scripture.
Sadly, a small number of wolves are themselves deceived, but the vast majority are simply professional con-artists who use the name of Jesus Christ and the so-called “local institutional church” for their own carnal interests and self-serving ambitions.
When professing Christians are captivated and follow anyone other than Jesus Christ alone, they are following the wrong voice.
